About 4Drive France

Connecting travellers with local vehicles across France

Who We Are

4Drive France operates as a booking platform linking travellers with rental companies in major cities and airports. We handle the reservation process, allowing you to search inventory, compare options, and secure a vehicle with an advance payment made online. The rental agreement itself is signed at pick-up with the local supplier, whose details appear in your voucher.

Our focus is on providing access to vehicles suited to different itineraries - compact city models, estates for family trips, SUVs for Alpine routes, and pickups for rural terrain. Each listing specifies transmission type, fuel policy, mileage terms, and available add-ons such as winter tyres, child seats, or cross-border travel permissions to Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and ferry approval for Corsica.

We operate from Vieux Nice and maintain office hours Monday through Sunday, responding to enquiries about bookings, documentation requirements, and route planning.

How 4Drive Works

The booking process follows four stages. First, you search by location and dates, filtering results by vehicle type, transmission, or specific features. Each listing shows the daily rate, included mileage, fuel policy, and any deposit hold the rental company will apply on a card at pick-up.

Second, you complete the reservation by paying a booking advance online via card. This advance is not a deposit - it is part of the total rental cost. The remaining balance is settled when you collect the vehicle, using the payment method specified in the listing (debit card, cash, or credit card, depending on the particular vehicle).

Third, you receive a voucher by email containing the rental company's name, pick-up address (desk at terminal, counter in city, or hotel delivery), contact details, and the vehicle details. The voucher also lists any paid extras you selected, such as an additional driver or chains for mountain passes.

Fourth, you present the voucher, your driving licence, and the required payment card at pick-up. The rental company inspects the vehicle with you, notes any existing damage in the agreement, and explains the deposit hold (if applicable), excess coverage, and return instructions.

Where We Operate

We cover six cities and their airports: Nice (NCE), Marseille (MRS), Lyon (LYS), Paris (CDG and ORY), Bordeaux (BOD), and Bastia on Corsica. Each location connects to different routes - Nice serves the Cote d'Azur and Italian border crossings, Marseille provides access to Provence and Aix-en-Provence, Lyon links to Alpine regions, Paris covers northern and central itineraries, Bordeaux opens Atlantic coastal roads and wine country, and Bastia serves Corsican mountain and coastal circuits.

Pick-up points vary by city. Airport desks operate at terminals, city offices sit in central districts, and some suppliers offer delivery to hotels or train stations for an additional fee. The exact pick-up method and address are confirmed in your voucher after booking.

Why No Deposit

Many listings on 4Drive are available without a deposit hold at pick-up. This means the rental company does not block funds on your card as security. The excess (the amount you would pay toward damage or theft) remains part of the rental terms - it is simply not pre-authorised as a hold.

No-deposit availability depends on the specific vehicle and the rental company's policy. It is an independent parameter, unrelated to insurance coverage or excess levels. If you prefer a no-deposit option, filter search results accordingly, and check the listing details before completing your booking.

For vehicles that do require a deposit hold, ensure your card has sufficient available funds. Debit cards are accepted by many suppliers, but limits must cover both the deposit hold and any outstanding balance. Raising your card limit before travel can help if you do not hold a credit card.
